SAMSUNG CURVED TV

People want to know if this claim is just a desire to get people to upgrade or if this article is to enlighten people about the advantages of and disadvantages of having the curved TV. It’ll be much easier for you to decide if it’s worth getting one or sticking to your flat screen.

One of the major things with technology is the fact that things become obsolete after a while. If we cast our mind back to the various TV models in the past, we’ll all come to a conclusion that it’s just a matter of time before the curved TVs take over.

THE BEAUTIES OF THE SAMSUNG CURVED TV

  1. Fully Immersed – You’re fully immersed as if whatever you’re watching is happening in your living room and not inside the screen. This experience occurs because the image is slightly curved forward, therefore you have the feeling of being wrapped around the screen. You’re deeply drawn into the programme you’re watching.
  2. Enhanced Depth – When watching from the curved screen for the first time you get the 3D effect, even from a 2D source. This magic occurs because the curved edge of the images towards viewers enhances the visual perception and depth of the programme. One thing Samsung has done is to apply depth enhancement processing the curved TVs, so that adjustments to contrast of different parts of the images boost the sense of depth.
  3. Wider field of view – You get the feel of seeing a wider image compared to the flat screen because the edges bend towards you. A test could be carried out by drawing lines from the head position to the edges of a 65 inch flat TV. On the other hand, one could also draw a line from head position past the edges of a 65 inch curved TV from the same angle as the flat screen. The difference is the curved stretches further across the wall compared to the flat screen.
  4. Better Contrast – This point seems quite interesting, with the curved screen the light from the screen is right in your face or better still directly in your eyes. It happens the same way satellite dishes strengthens signals by focusing them onto an LNB. The curved TVs will deliver between 1.5x and 1.8x higher contrast than flat screens.

A comparison is needed to believe this argument. There are some flat screens that use the same exact level of picture specification as curved screen. According to research it could be true that most curved TVs truly have an upper hand regarding the contrast.

  1. Uniform Viewing Distance – Another point put forward is the rounded shape of the eyes are track better. This leads to a delivery of a more focused and comfortable image compared to the flat screen. The argument was supported by the use of curved screen in cinemas, because curves aid the projected image to retain their sharpness in the corners of their large screen sizes.

Based on studies in America and Germany research shows that Samsung sets it’s curvature level at 4200mm-radius circle. This evens the current average TV viewing distance of 3.2m. Some claimed they haven’t really seen much impact from this innovation on small curved screens. Others are hopeful that this effect will be more beneficial on the 70 inch plus curved TVs once they start coming out.

  1. Wider Viewing Angle – You’ll have to experience this to make sense out of it, the point made was, a reduction in viewing angle support occurs when the edges of the image are curved. Examine LCD TV’s revealed a directionality problem. The ways the lights are being pushed through the LCD arrays means that viewing LCD sideways means drastic reductions in contrast and saturation.

Regarding curved screen, the contrast and the colour will retain their sharpness and accuracy. This is possible because of the way the curve makes adjustments in the direction of the emitted light especially if watching from the side view.

  1. Curved TVs Looks great – One of the main things that will make you fall in love with this TV is the design. In the six points above the things refer to most are the technical aspect of the curved TV. This is not the first thing people see, but the design, for a lot of people the design alone is more than enough for them to have one. Humans have the tendency to get fed up with things and desire something different.

The curved does make the design looks great, offering you something unique, a new viewing experience. Designs even now rank higher in most households.

THE DOWN SIDE OF SAMSUNG CURVED TV

This part of the article addresses the other side of the coin so that you have a wider choice of comparing.

  1. Reflection is blown out of proportion – You’ll need to have extra light control elements in the room wherever you have the curved TV. The reason being that anything bright in the room will have a reflection on the curved TV. This will lead to the screen being stretched and distorted across a wide area of the screen compared to a flat screen. The extra light control element will help to reduce the reflection.
  2. Limits to Viewing Angles – Although the viewing angles offer lots of benefits as stated previously it also come with its own downside. The image’s geometry could be affected when viewing from the side. You might not really notice if the TV is within 35 degrees angle on either side, once it goes beyond the 35 degree angle image are likely to become difficult to view. The image on the screen closer to your sitting position begins to appear shortened depending on the angle.
  3. Viewing Spots – The layout of the room must be put into consideration before buying a curved screen. Your sitting arrangements will play a role if you will get the best out of the TV. To get the maximum benefit from the immersive and depth-enhancement element of the curve, you’ll have to position your seat right at the centre of the screen. This is the ideal and perfect position.

If you have a very big room you won’t have to worry so much about this because of the extra space. Having enough space multi people will be able to watch without having any viewing problems.

  1. Curved Screen must be big – The size of the curved screen is directly proportional to its effectiveness. A test conducted on all the 55 model benefits didn’t offer much regarding the effectiveness. On the other hand, with the 65 inch models, it’s much easier to appreciate the picture benefits. Furthermore, there’s a significant benefit with the 70 inch models or more.
  2. Awkward Wall Flowers – You can hang the curved TV on the wall with Samsung TV, but it does look awkward while hanging. They present a funny look because of the way they stick out of the wall. I think one of the greatest benefits with flat screen is the advantage of hanging them on the wall thereby having more space. It will definitely look much better if hang in a corner of the wall.
  3. Expensive – Manufacturers claim these curved TVs are far more expensive to make compared to the flat ones. This is the main reason given for them being quite expensive. I think it has more to do with being something new, as time goes on, their prices to drop and becomes more affordable.

FOCUSING ON SAMSUNG CURVED TV

Samsung is backing the curved TV 100 per cent; research showed that 70 per cent of their new lines up of premium TVs for 2015 are being curved. At the Company’s European forum in Monaco, Michael Zoeller, the sales and marketing director claimed that the curved screen took Europe by storm in 2014. There are more than 200,000 curved TVs sold in December alone.

He went further to state that the curved TVs are the future of television. A lot of people displayed sceptical faces, a normal reaction to something new. The heightened immersive experience and improved quality picture are gradually persuading members of the public to embrace the Samsung curved TV.

The main idea behind the Samsung TV curved screen is to create a distortion-free viewing experience with less eye strain and provides more viewing comfort. The curved TVs also offer a wider and fuller view giving you the panoramic effect. If going by my findings Samsung has already launched a 32 inch, 40 inch and 48 inch curved TVs since 2015. My findings also revealed that curved computer monitors are also being produced, like the recent SE790C.

The Company also said the average TV size in Europe has increased dramatically since the beginning of the decade and it’ll keep growing. The normal TV size in a living room in 2010 was 32 inch, predictions says by 2020 and average TVs screen in a living room will be 65 inches with premium customers going for 75 or 85 inches television.

There are predictions that the sales of curved TV were likely going to be only one per cent of the overall global sales of TV since 2015. Steve Koenig the CEA’s director of the industry analysis predicted that 3.4 million curved screen will be sold worldwide this year. On the other hand many analyst and industry critics dismissed curved screen as a gimmick. They believe that with time all the hype about curved screen will disappear. They believe that this is one of the electronics that will not last a lifetime.

I believe only time will tell if curved TV screen will someday become the de facto TV shape. As outlined above they do have their down side but they’ve also build up a strong case through the benefits they offered. Their benefits in my opinion has really made it hard for them to be considered write offs.
